The Bachelor star Chris Soules isn't being shy about why he surprisingly chose to keep Ashley Salter in the competition.

Salter, a 24-year-old hairstylist from Brooklyn, NY, has had everyone talking about her strange behavior this season. From nonsensical rants about onions to wandering around aimlessly with a blank stare on her face, the bachelorettes seemed very confused as to why Soules would give her a rose.

"Well there's another side of that story that didn't make it to TV," Soules told Entertainment Tonight. "Prior to the [second] Rose Ceremony, I don't know if I came up to her or if she came up to me, but I wanted to talk to her after that whole night because it was pretty out there."

Salter offered Soules bizarre advice and became obsessed with certain details, like shooting zombies, finding angels within a candle, nearby animals or discussing "Mesa Verde."

"We [talked] and she apologized," the 33-year-old Iowa farmer and businessman said. "It's a tough situation to be in and things happen, people act differently -- clearly Ashley S. is a little crazy."

The Bachelor did note, however, that Salter is a "fireball."

"I did talk to her and I'm like, 'Okay, let's give her another chance,'" Soules told ET. "I think she's a great girl and she really is a really funny, witty, smart, beautiful woman that has a tendency to get a little crazy."

The show's editing clearly played a role in why Salter is still around. Soules didn't write her off in the first two episodes because of normal moments and conversations they had together that never aired.

"There's a different side to Ashley that I do like," he insisted.

The next episode of The Bachelor airs Monday night at 8PM ET/PT on ABC.
