Report: 'America's Got Talent' judge Piers Morgan getting CNN show

UPI News Service, 06/17/2010

British reality TV personality Piers Morgan is getting a new CNN chat show as the network phases out current host Larry King, sources told the New York Post.

Morgan, a judge on "America's Got Talent" and its U.K. counterpart, "Britain's Got Talent," is the former editor of Britain's Daily Mirror and a winner on "The Celebrity Apprentice."

The Post said Morgan, 45, has signed a pact to serve as host of an hourlong, four-day-a-week CNN interview program, which will start in the fall.

While he is expected to remain on "America's Got Talent," he is quitting "Britain's Got Talent," the report said.

"Morgan's U.K. interview shows, including one where former Prime Minister Gordon Brown broke down in tears, impressed CNN bosses. Morgan's show will be prerecorded in New York so he can work 'round his other TV commitments," one insider told the newspaper.

CNN said in a statement it doesn't comment on speculation.

"Rumors that we are close to signing a deal for a Larry King replacement are untrue," the statement said. "Larry is a beloved member of the team, and he will continue to be part of the CNN family into the future."

King, 76, has been in the spotlight recently due to his marriage problems with his seventh wife, Shawn.
