Exactly how many dance-themed reality competition shows can one network have?

ABC ordered five-episodes of Dance Machine, which Variety reported "has been in the works for some time" and is scheduled to begin filming in January, with casting currently underway.
ABC already plans to bridge the broadcast gap between Dancing with the Stars currently airing fifth season and its Spring 2008 sixth installment with Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann, a new reality competition series based on the U.K.'s recently premiered BBC show that will follow Dancing judges Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli as they mentor two teams of singers and dancers who are then pitted against each other.
Dance Machine was created by RDF USA's executive vice president Greg Goldman, who Variety reported will also serve as executive producer along with the production company's chief Chris Coelen as well as Metro Entertainment's Brian Veskosky.
"Ordinary people, extraordinary circumstances and a whole lot of money on the line," Coelen told Variety in describing the show.
ABC and RDF USA -- the American arm of RDF Media Group, the British television production company that created the U.K.'s original Wife Swap program -- have previously worked together on Shaq's Big Challenge, which aired this summer, and the network's American edition of Wife Swap, the fourth season of which is currently scheduled to premiere later this season. However, Goldman told Variety that Dance Machine represents the production company's first "homegrown" RDF USA format for the network.
