Rocker Ozzy Osbourne credits a fire alarm with saving his and wife Sharon's life at their British mansion, The Telegraph said Thursday.

News of the fire that gutted the ground floor living room of their Buckinghamshire home last Friday night only emerged days later, when fire officials gave the couple safety instructions at their charred home.

Osbourne, 56, and his 51-year-old wife were awoken by an alarm and raced outside to their garden with the family pets as crews from two fire trucks battled the blaze.

The investigation continued Thursday, although an electrical short was the suspected cause of the fire, which officials would only say caused thousands of dollars of damage.

There were no injuries.

In recent months, Osbourne was badly injured in a recreational vehicle crash, his wife was diagnosed with cancer and their home was burglarized.
