Katie wasn't sure she and Derek could get to that level of emotion at this point in their relationship.
Katie asked Derek what went wrong in his past relationships, and he said communication wasn't great and he was looking for a woman with whom he could totally be himself.
Katie was feeling a little insecure but realized she's valuable and deserves a man who will put a lot of effort into a relationship with her, and Derek agreed, saying she's definitely a catch.
Brandon ignores Taylor on the ride to the retreat
As Katie, Derek, Austin and Jessica got settled into the house, Brandon vented to a Diary Cam about how Taylor had decided to spend a night in a hotel room with people he didn't know.
Taylor allegedly told Brandon that she was only going out with her friends for 30-40 minutes but then he received a text the following morning with an apology from Taylor, who claimed she had fallen asleep in a hotel room with two of her friends.
Brandon didn't know whether her friends were male or female, and he said Taylor's story didn't add up and he was "looking like a damn fool" at that point. Brandon wanted answers.
Brandon didn't want to go to the retreat, but he agreed to go anyways. Since things weren't right with Taylor, Brandon decided to just sleep on the car ride over.
"The ride up is just not everything I thought it would be. I'm really hoping this is not about me going out because he didn't say he was upset or anything, but if you really are, then open up, speak your piece and spit it out -- but he doesn't... He doesn't talk to me," Taylor told the cameras.
Katie vents about Derek
Meanwhile, Jessica told Katie things were going well in her marriage, and Katie said she was certain Derek was "a good guy" but they lacked passion. Katie hoped passion would come with time, saying she connected well with Derek one day but then struggled to communicate with him the next.
"We just don't vibe well a lot of the time," Katie shared with Jessica. "I've just caught myself getting so annoyed with everything he does and says."
Jessica admitted she and Austin had a fight over how much he needed to travel for work, but Katie suggested maybe distance would make them miss each other and make their relationship stronger.
Derek told Austin that he might have been looking for the wrong things in a person but he and Katie argued a lot over both silly and serious things. Derek and Austin joked about how it was difficult to figure out women and they needed to work on that.
Brandon was frustrated with Taylor and said their "lingering issue" needed to be resolved and talked through, and he still considered the Married at First Sight cast to be strangers -- so he felt "trapped" at the retreat and wasn't excited to mix and mingle.
Taylor told Katie and Jessica that she didn't spend much time with Brandon, and both Katie and Taylor bonded over how their men allegedly never initiated physical intimacy. Taylor also confirmed she and Brandon had yet to have sex.
Michael basically ignores Meka
But Meka was feeling pretty good, saying she understood Michael more after having a conversation with her sister. Meka hoped to rebuild their foundation and just have fun with each other, although she wanted Michael to engage in conversation more.
Meka felt she and Michael hadn't made much progress since "Recommitment Day" and had taken steps back, and Michael didn't seem to talk to his wife much on the drive to the retreat.
Meka told the cameras she and Michael didn't have a good car ride and once they arrived at the retreat, Michael took off with Brandon and left her by herself. Meka therefore spent some time with Taylor and the other girls.
Over a taco dinner, Derek and Taylor asked the group to take tequila shots. Michael and Brandon left the table, as Brandon said he didn't want to take shots because he had to work the next day. When the guys walked away, Taylor said "f-ck them" out loud.
Katie gets jealous that Derek isn't paying attention to her
Meanwhile, it was clear Derek was being loose and having fun. He and Taylor laughed about things at the table together, and Taylor bragged how she and Derek were "always on the same page" and he was hilarious.
Katie didn't appreciate watching Derek's and Taylor's interaction and even snapped at Derek for liking the other wives more. She believed Derek wasn't paying any attention to her.
"Taylor thinks he's great and that just rubs me the wrong way," Katie said in a confessional, adding that Taylor and Derek's friendship made her want to throw up.
After Jessica announced she had said "I love you" to Austin, Derek told Austin that he should only say those words in return if he meant it 120 percent. That pissed Katie off, and she declared, "He's such an assh-le."
Katie mocked Taylor by shouting about how great and awesome Derek was, adding, "I'm going to barf!"
Katie grew even more frustrated when Derek didn't chase her down to talk and ask what was wrong. She said Derek stayed behind with Taylor, which upset her even more.
"It was a combination of, like, he doesn't flirt with me. So it's, like, don't flirt with other girls in front of me," Katie complained to Meka and Jessica.
Meka disagreed and noted that Derek was not flirting with other girls, but Katie vented about how Derek failed to make her feel special because he didn't "do anything more" with her than what he was doing with Taylor.
Katie felt she was pulling all the weight in her relationship and it was annoying Derek was getting recognition for being such a great guy. Katie said Derek didn't do or initiate anything and she was "worn the f-ck out."
"He's a good guy but that's it," Katie said.
"I think he's a teachable guy," Jessica suggested, saying Derek could probably come around with some good advice.
Katie complained that she had explained to Derek what she needed from him but saw no change, and it was clear she was losing hope in her marriage and her spouse.
"No," Katie replied. "I'm doubting that more and more every day."
Brandon complains to Michael about Meka
Brandon was then shown venting to Michael about how his marriage had been tough and Taylor didn't take his feelings into consideration. He said he didn't know what to do on "Decision Day" because it didn't seem like Taylor wanted to be married.
And Taylor agreed the process had been very hard. Taylor told Derek and Austin that Brandon didn't communicate with her or open up about his feelings. She felt she was putting so much energy and sacrifice into her relationship without getting it back.
Michael explained to Brandon that his uncle had died and Meka failed to comfort and support him as he cried.
Katie vents at Derek
Afterward, Katie finally confronted Derek about how she was feeling about his flirtatious nature. She said he treated her the same as he treated every other girl at the retreat.
"You don't make any initiative physically," Katie said.
Derek acknowledged Katie had been on her period for almost a week, but Katie said married people have sex on their period and it wasn't an excuse.
"The last time I tried making a move, you said, 'No,'" Katie shouted.
Katie scolded Derek for being defensive, not listening to her and talking over her, so she ended the conversation prematurely and walked away from him. Derek begged Katie to talk to him, but she wasn't having it.
Derek said he wanted his marriage to work out but he wasn't sure what was wrong with Katie. He didn't understand how they got into another huge argument when their marriage was pretty solid going into the retreat.
Katie accused Derek of being real with everyone else except for her, but Derek didn't think he had done anything wrong.
"I've seen you initiate conversation with girls and it's way better than you do with me! You don't act like a loser or a weirdo with everyone else!" Katie yelled.
Derek said he was just being himself and Katie constantly shot him down.
"I initiate everything... I am so f-cking done!" Katie screamed.
Meka tells Michael to sleep in another room
Before bed on Night 1 of the retreat, Meka suggested she and Michael should sleep in separate rooms because it was obvious to her that Michael wasn't feeling it -- and neither was she.
Meka said there was no need to fake their relationship and Michael had passed on every opportunity to talk to her or show that he cared. She knew sleeping together would just be awkward and uncomfortable.
Michael did admit to being mad, but he told the cameras he never would have suggested they sleep in separate beds. Meka said the decision to stay married was all in Michael's court because he had a lot of work to do.
Derek and Katie also went to bed angry. Derek said while he wasn't in love with Katie yet, he really liked her and cared about her and would be devastated if their marriage didn't work out.
Derek apologized to Katie for fighting with her and hoped they could discuss their issues in the morning.
Brandon and Taylor argue
While Brandon was on the phone outside, Taylor tried to snuggle with him and spend time with him. Brandon said Taylor continued to act like a single girl who just wanted to spend time with her friends, and he explained that wasn't the type of person he wanted to be married to.
Taylor said she went to Washington, D.C. to drop him off at work and hang out with her friends since she couldn't hang out with him.
"You're the reason I went out, Brandon," Taylor yelled.
"So I put a gun to your head," Brandon began.
"No, b-tch!" Taylor screamed.
"Now she's calling me a b-tch," Brandon told the cameras.
"If you had a problem, you should have said it to me... You had all day today to say it was a problem... I'm done with your sh-t," Taylor said.
Brandon said the real problem was that Taylor never came home, but she insisted she had texted him and communicated with him. Taylor stood by the fact she had fallen asleep in the hotel.
Taylor kept swearing at Brandon that she was done, saying she couldn't believe he was mad because she made other plans since he said he had to work.
"You control your own time. Fix yourself; don't fix me," Taylor yelled.
Brandon fights with the show's producers
Once Taylor went to bed, Brandon said he and Taylor were "done," and he demanded production take the cameras away from him. Brandon started to take the microphone off his body, and a producer asked him not to touch it.
"Guess what? I just did. What? Are you going to put your hands on me?" Brandon asked.
"No, that's not your property, dude," the producer countered.
"What are you going to do?" Brandon asked.
"Who are you?" the producer questioned. "What's your problem man?"
Brandon then handed his microphone over to the producer and concluded, "That's what."
Brandon got into a fight with production and swore at the producer, staring him down and calling him "a f-cking dickhead" and "a piece of sh-t." He then called a female on the production staff "a piece of sh-t" as well, saying he didn't care about either one of them.
Brandon claimed he had been "dealing with a charade," and the producer said it wasn't his problem because Brandon had signed up for this show. Brandon told the producer to kiss his ass, and then the producer sarcastically replied, "Yeah, I did this to you."
The producer told Brandon he was acting like a child as Brandon taunted him repeatedly and got all up in his face.
Taylor tries to calm Brandon down
Taylor was shown attempting to calm everybody down, including her husband, who began packing up his belongings to leave the retreat.
Taylor begged Brandon to talk to her, but he kept repeating, "Don't touch me."
"Please stop," Taylor calmly noted.
Taylor closed Brandon into a bathroom and tried to talk to him, but he could be heard screaming, "Get off of me! Stop putting your hands on me! Get the f-ck off of me. Do not touch me."
Taylor insisted they should talk because she was committed to him and their marriage, but Brandon just wanted to leave the room and hash things out.
Brandon argued a married woman shouldn't want to spend the night out in a hotel with her friends, but Taylor said she had apologized for that.
Despite Taylor's attempts, Brandon got dressed, grabbed his bag and left the retreat.
The next morning, Derek apologized to Katie for not prioritizing her and making her feel special. Katie said matters became worse when Taylor boasted about how wonderful Derek seemed to be because it made her look like the bad guy.
Katie didn't feel Derek had been an angel in their relationship, but she apologized for flipping out on him as well.
Katie acknowledged she definitely had a crush on Derek because she got jealous of his friendship with Taylor and wanted all the attention from him. Derek joked, "F-ck Taylor," and promised he'd never make her feel that way again.
Michael decides to take off with Brandon
Michael was then shown telling the cameras he needed space and so he was going to leave the retreat for a while to deal with some funeral arrangements and work.
Meka explained Michael's behavior was consistent with him not being ready or even wanting to be a husband. Meka said Michael should have communicated with her how he was feeling and why he needed to leave.
Meka didn't think Michael was showing up to their marriage because she found out he was leaving along with everyone else. Meka understood the funeral was a big deal and she said she was sympathetic to that, but she needed more from her husband.
Meanwhile, Brandon was sitting in a van outside, and since he wasn't being driven home, he just decided to take off on foot. Jessica was actually glad Brandon had left because she thought there was always more drama when Brandon was around and she just wanted to enjoy breakfast with her castmates.
The two remaining couples go on dates
With eight days left until "Decision Day," Derek stole a golf cart so he and Katie could explore the grounds and have an adventure. Derek wanted to show Katie he had a bad-boy side, and he stopped along their journey to pick his wife some flowers and try out some paddleboats.
"I feel like we get closer every time we have a fight. What the f-ck is wrong with us? We fight and then we're better than ever. Is that normal?" Katie asked Derek.
"I don't know, but if it works, it works," Derek responded.
Jessica and Austin also enjoyed a date by checking out a nearby cave, and Meka and Taylor decided to spend the day together since their husbands were missing in action.
When Taylor took off with Meka, she received a text from Brandon telling her to enjoy the rest of the retreat alone. Taylor told the cameras Brandon choosing not to come back was "a slap in the face" and proved he didn't care about her.
Meka also texted Michael to see where he was at, and Michael shared that it would take him a while to return because there was traffic.
"I don't know if I really like my husband, but I definitely love Meka," Taylor joked to the cameras before the girls participated in a supernatural experience.
Meka and Taylor tried to get the most out of the retreat even though their husbands weren't around.
Michael appears to lie again
Michael eventually returned to the retreat and hoped to work on the issues he and Meka were facing. He just wasn't sure Meka cared for him and wanted to help him through difficult times.
Brandon, however, was nowhere to be found, and Katie called him "an assh-le" and Taylor was definitely disappointed.
The cast also became skeptical of what Michael did once he got back to Washington, D.C. because his story didn't add up when asked whether he hung out with Brandon that day.
Jessica, for instance, wasn't even sure Michael took care of any funeral arrangements while he was home, and Taylor murmured "bullsh-t" as Michael told his story.
"I'm so glad somebody else is calling him out because he maintains that the reason why he lies is because he does not feel comfortable with me. It's me and I don't feel vulnerable. But Michael has been lying to me since Day 1. I'm just glad everyone else can finally see it," Meka told the cameras.
Michael left the gathering and called everyone "ridiculous."
