Kris Allen and his pregnant wife Katy Allen injured in head-on car crash

By Elizabeth Kwiatkowski, 01/02/2013

Kris Allen and his wife Katy O'Connell were injured in a head-on collision car accident on New Year's Day.

"Yes I got in a really bad wreck tonight and yes I'm having a lil baby," Kris, who won American Idol's eighth season in 2009, tweeted Tuesday night.

Kris broke his right wrist in the crash but it won't have much of an effect on his future plans, according to Us Weekly.

"Don't worry everyone I may have broken my wrist but the #OutAliveTour is still on," he tweeted.

TMZ reported on Wednesday that Katy suffered some injuries while the couple's dog Zorro was also in the car but is okay. It's unclear how far along Katy is in her pregnancy, as Kris only announced his wife is expecting their first child together as part of his accident tweets.

However, the baby is believed to have gotten through the accident just fine.

"Thank you @Ford for equipping me with a car that kept my whole family @katyallen @ZorroPup and the little one we have on the way safe," Kris wrote on Twitter.

Kris' mother Kimberly Allen also tweeted some details about her family's condition on Tuesday.

"Kristopher and Katy are both pretty beat up but alive! Thank you Jesus! They are setting his arm now and will have surgery tomorrow," Kimberly wrote. "Zorro is fine, too! Very shook up, but not injured."

Kris and Katy were high school sweethearts who got married in 2008.
