Shawn ended up proposing marriage to Kaitlyn, which she was thrilled to accept. The newly-engaged pair is now embracing their relationship in public and dealing with the aftermath of a very controversial season.

During a Tuesday conference call, Kaitlyn and Shawn talked to reporters about their experience on the show, their love and what's next. Below is a portion of their interview. Check Reality TV World's The Bachelorette page for more.

Kaitlyn, you said throughout the show that Shawn was "the one."  Was there even a chance of you picking someone else?  Or was it always Shawn, regardless of how strong your feelings were for Nick or for someone else?

Kaitlyn Bristowe:  Yeah, it was always Shawn.

Was there a moment from the season that you wish viewers would've seen but didn't?

Kaitlyn Bristowe:  Yes, there's a few.

Shawn Booth:  There's a few of them.

Kaitlyn Bristowe:  We'll pick one.  There's a few.  We'll pick one.  For me, it would be when we had like a big moment on top of a boat in New York.

Shawn Booth:  Yeah.

Kaitlyn Bristowe:  And we, like, were slow dancing.  And I feel like we really fell in love in that moment.

Shawn Booth:  Yeah, I was going to say the same exact thing.  That was a perfect night.  And I think we were both like, "Yes, this is real.  This is happening."  It was amazing.

How was it for you, Shawn, watching the family date back and seeing how Kaitlyn's family favored you?

Shawn Booth:  Yes, that's -- I just watched my part with her family.  And it felt great to hear them say the kind of things that they did.

Kaitlyn Bristowe:  They loved him.

Shawn Booth:  They were amazing.  And it's so nice.  Now after the show, building a relationship with them and being close to them -- they're amazing people, so.  That's great.

So last night, it was really sweet, Shawn, when you defended Kaitlyn about the cyberbullying and everything that she experienced throughout the show.  How was that for both of you going through that?

Shawn Booth:  Yeah, I mean, there's obviously been some tough times.  And people can be pretty --

Kaitlyn Bristowe:  Harsh.

Shawn Booth:  Yeah, pretty harsh, but like I said, now that I'm able to stand by here and tell everybody, you know, how I feel and support her, she's giving me just as much support as I have for her.  So I think we're stronger because of it.  And now, we just want to take on the world as one, and we're looking forward to it.

Kaitlyn, how did it feel to be separated from Shawn after the show when you were experiencing all that hate on social media?

Kaitlyn Bristowe:  Yeah, I think that was definitely hard for me, because I just wanted him by my side and him to stand up for me, because I knew he wanted to as well.  So I would just call him all the time, being like, "Oh, my gosh, this is happening."

But I think for the most part, we handled it pretty well.  There's just a couple like really harsh comments.  And now that people know that he's beside me, I don't think they'll be saying it anymore.

Shawn, is your mom is chomping at the bit to meet Kaitlyn?

Shawn Booth:  Yeah.

When will you plan to bring her into Connecticut and what do you want to show her here?

Shawn Booth:  Right, yeah.  Definitely would love to introduce her to my mother within the next month at some point and just be able to hang out with each other and get to know one another.  So no major plans or destinations or anything like that.

Kaitlyn Bristowe:  But it will happen.

Shawn Booth:  But it will happen soon.

Kaitlyn, are you looking forward to meeting your future mother-in-law?

Kaitlyn Bristowe:  I can't wait.  I'm so excited to meet her.

Shawn, you've gone from nobody knowing you to basically being a celebrity.  How are you handling all that?  Because I know you guys have been going non-stop since this all broke last night.

Shawn Booth:  Yeah, I think it's funny when people try and like say "celebrity" and "famous" and all that.  I just don't get that, but it's -- yeah, it's a little crazy.

Kaitlyn Bristowe:  It's overwhelming.

Shawn Booth:  It's insane, but yeah, we're just so overwhelmed right now with everything, and just so excited for the show to be over, and just to start living these normal lives, and be with each other.  So it's -- we've been on this [ride] for a while.

What's the very first thing you planned to do after you're done with this whole press thing?

Kaitlyn Bristowe:  Nap.  Nap and then go on a date.  We can't wait to just go for dinner and have a date night.

Would you guys invite Ben Higgins to your wedding?

Kaitlyn Bristowe:  Of course.

Shawn Booth:  Yes, absolutely.
