Jon and Kate Gosselin were apparently able to stomach each other long enough on Thursday to celebrate their twin's ninth birthday without any problems.

"I'm staying until the kids go to bed," Jon told People during a break in Thursday's visit. "We're trying to be cordial for Mady and Cara."

Jon was able to stay at the couple's Wernersville, PA home despite an email proposal from Kate to Jon on Wednesday in which she requested they abandon their previous joint-shared custody agreement to instead celebrate Mady and Cara's birthday separately -- with Jon having the kids from 4PM to 6PM and then "trade off" with Kate for the rest of the night.

Jon had previously stated he had no intention of adhering to Kate's proposal and -- even as he drove from his New York City apartment to his family's home on Thursday -- he expressed concern to Entertainment Tonight about how the situation would play out if he refused to leave.

"She'll probably threaten to call the cops," he told Entertainment Tonight.

However Jon told TMZ after the celebration that he and Kate made it "cordial" for the brithday.

Thursday's birthday party represented the first time Jon and Kate saw each other since Jon had his lawyers demand last week that TLC "cease and desist" any television production on his family's property or face potential criminal charges.  Jon claims filming Jon & Kate Plus 8 has become "detrimental" to his children.

In her email, Kate said she proposed the separate birthday bashes "due to recent events," and Jon speculated that meant Kate might have planned on having TLC cameras film her portion of the party after he left.

"I have a suspicion that she may be shooting the show after six o'clock tomorrow when I'm supposed to be off premises," he told Entertainment Tonight.  "If she does that, it'll be on.  But we'll see what happens.  Maybe I'll just camp outside for a while."

Jon said there were cut-and-dry consequences should TLC try to film.

"They'll be arrested if they do show up," he told Entertainment Tonight.

However there was apparently no need for the police to be called and the birthday had no reported problems -- except for the fact that the cake Jon got for the twins from New York's Cupcake Cafe had his daughter's name misspelled "Maddy" with an extra "d," according to People.

Cupcake Cafe owner Ann Warren told People that the cake was ordered over the telephone by an entertainment show she couldn't remember the name of -- referring to it only as "Entertainment Something." 

In addition, the caller from the show said Jon would retrieve the cake on Wednesday and asked if it would be okay to film in the shop before incorrectly spelling out Mady's name, People reported.

Footage of Jon picking up the cake then aired during Thursday's Entertainment Tonight broadcast, and Warren told People that Jon seemed surprised when he arrived at the shop and learned a cake had already been ordered.

"I had to buy one because I don't bake," explained Jon to Entertainment Tonight, as he expected Kate to follow her usual tradition and bake a cake for the girls' birthday.

An Entertainment Tonight representative subsequently told TMZ the show was not reimbursing Jon for the cake, which ended up costing him $94.
