Fox TV has dumped the fourth season of "The Simple Life," its popular reality show starring former best friends Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie.

Season four, which was in pre-production, was supposed to follow the socialites as they got ready for their impending weddings.

The theme was thrown into chaos when Hilton called off her engagement to Greek shipping heir Paris Latsis, TV Week reported.

Things were further complicated by the not-speaking co-stars, whose feud has been fodder for tabloids since the end of season three.

Fox's statement cited scheduling as the reason for the move, TV Week said.

The producer of the show, 20th Century Fox Television, also released a statement saying it was disappointed by the network's decision, adding it could be announcing "a new network partner in the coming days."

Sources told TV Week both NBC and the WB were interested in picking the show up.
