Mike Starr was found dead in Salt Lake City, UT on Tuesday.

Police discovered the former Celebrity Rehab participant's body after they received a call of a possible death at a residence, however the cause of the 44-year-old's death is currently unknown, CNN reported.

"Devastating to hear of Mike Starr succumbing to his illness," VH1's Celebrity Rehab and Sober House star Dr. Drew Pinsky wrote on Twitter in reference to Starr's longtime battle with drug addiction. "So very sad. Our prayers are with his family."

The former Alice in Chains bassist appeared on the 2009 third season of Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, which also featured One Day at a Time star Mackenzie Phillips; former "Hollywood Madam" Heidi Fleiss; actor Tom Sizemore; former NBA star Dennis Rodman; country singer Mindy McCready; fifth-season America's Next Top Model contestant Lisa D'Amato; former The Real World Hollywood cast member Joey Kovar; and former Playboy Playmate Kari Ann Peniche.

"Mike Starr was a great and troubled guy," Phillips wrote on Twitter. "I loved him... Rest in Peace, brother. #dopekills."

"My stomach is in my throat. We love U, Mike. #RIPMikey," D'Amato wrote on Twitter.

"Mike Starr was my homey. He had a larger than life heart. My last visit w/him was a funny & sweet one. I'll always rmbr that. <3 #RIPMike," D'Amato added in a subsequent tweet.
