Dancing with the Stars eliminee Doug Flutie admits it was pretty out of character for him to hit the dance floor, but he's so glad he did.

"It's all out of my comfort zone," Flutie said during a Tuesday appearance on Good Morning America with his pro partner Karina Smirnoff after their Dancing with the Stars ouster.

"[Karina]'s job was to make me comfortable being uncomfortable, and she did it. She pulled me out of my shell a little bit."

Flutie said he and Smirnoff definitely "got better" in recent weeks.

"Oh my gosh, yes," Smirnoff agreed, explaining how the retired NFL quarterback had a look of horror on his face during Week 1. "I was like, 'Oh no! Oh no! Stay with me!'"

Flutie explained the audience's support helped with his stage fright a lot, as hearing the cheers reminded him of what it was like to play on a football field.

"It was fun! We got that [applause] just about every week and it was just so heartwarming, and it puts me at ease and makes me a little more relaxed. I know I'm a nervous wreck. But it was really nice. The crowd was always behind [us]," the former athlete told GMA.

Even New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and coach Bill Belichick offered up some kind words this season.

"It was really cool when Tom and Bill jumped onboard and gave us a shoutout, because Bill doesn't do that stuff, you know? Tom might occasionally make an appearance, but not often. And Bill never. So it was nice. I had a chance to play with Tom for a while and Bill coached," Flutie explained.

Flutie and Smirnoff were eliminated during Monday night's Dancing with the Stars performance show after their best dance of the season. The couple earned 21 out of 30 judges' points for their Bollywood routine.

"The fun thing about Bollywood was it was even new to Karina, so she started doing the homework and the research right away. But it was actually fun and maybe in my wheelhouse a little bit because it was more movement. I don't know, it just seemed like it was something you could pick up or learn," Flutie revealed.

"Yeah, and I think also because we had six weeks of dancing live on the show and then three weeks of rehearsal, it all kind of came up to the last week. So, when we started doing Bollywood -- besides the fact that every single move means something -- like, it's one of the coolest styles," Smirnoff gushed.

"I'm in love with Bollywood; I'm going to go take it up. But [Doug] just dove in and started doing it naturally with the whole [DWTS Troupe]. He did fantastic."

Flutie also pointed out his mother, who passed away in November 2015, would be very proud of him for giving Dancing with the Stars a shot.

"Just the fact I'd be on a dance floor anywhere, my mom would be so excited," Flutie noted. "My mom loved dancing herself -- weddings whatever it was, she'd have to try to drag me out on the dance floor... And [now] I'll be much more comfortable."
