'Biggest Loser' winner Rachel Frederickson: "I appreciate all the concern" about my weight loss

UPI News Service, 02/26/2014

Rachel Frederickson, a 24-year-old voiceover artist from Los Angeles, stunned "The Biggest Loser "audiences when she dropped down to 105 pounds for the finale, and admitted later that she might have been "a little too enthusiastic" about her training.

A few weeks after the finale, a healthier-looking Frederickson sat down with the "Today" show's Savannah Guthrie to discuss social-media criticism of her dramatic weight loss.

"I was (surprised), because I felt proud of everything I'd accomplished," she said of the negative reaction. "My journey was my own, and I loved it; I lived it. So, I felt really proud of what I did."

"I dieted and exercised and did it healthy the whole way," she added. "I appreciate all the concern, and I can see where it comes from. Ultimately, "I felt proud of everything I'd accomplished."

But "The Biggest Loser" trainer Jillian Michaels, who issued a tellingly ambiguous statement in the immediate aftermath of the finale, told The Tennessean on Wednesday that she felt Frederickson "went way too far."

Michaels said contestants spend several months completing their weight loss journey at home -- without trainer supervision.

"It's obvious we believe she's too thin. It's absurd on many levels, for her and how this happened, and I'm concerned about why we weren't told," Michaels said. "I was furious on a bunch of different levels because I felt like, how did we not know? How did the show fail her?"

Michaels said she has set up a meeting with the show's producers to discuss her "concerns."

"I think there are a lot of answers that everyone including myself are waiting on," she said.
