Big Brother featured Xavier Prather winning Head of Household and nominating Kyland Young and Azah Awasum for eviction during the latest Season 23 episode on CBS.
Xavier, a 27-year-old attorney from Kalamazoo, MI, decided to put Kyland, a 29-year-old account executive from San Bernardino County, CA who currently resides in Venice Beach, CA, and Azah, a 30-year-old director of sales operations from Baltimore, MD, on the chopping block heading into the most powerful Power of Veto competition of the summer.
Derek Frazier, a 29-year-old safety officer from Philadelphia, PA, said it felt "great" to be in the Final 4 and the men had stuck to their word thus far.
However, Derek -- who had made a Final 3 deal with the guys -- pointed out how Kyland and Xavier were supposed to be loyal to him and not each other.
Xavier revealed he had been on the chopping block five times and only seen the vote once, which he believed "spoke volumes" to how he's playing this game.
Azah explained how she felt her best shot to making it to Final 3 was to stay loyal to Derek and Xavier, but she had told Hannah before the second live eviction of Thursday night's episode that Xavier had been her target.
Once Kyland won the Power of Veto and took Xavier off the chopping block, Derek was the automatic replacement vote, and Azah said she felt "played" and never saw that move coming.
"Right now I'm pissed. This was my first HoH of the season and I should feel overjoyed but I don't, because I was forced to put up my ally [Derek] and it leaves me feeling very icky and upset," Azah lamented.
Derek didn't appreciate being "left out of the plans" either and wondered if he had a real handle on this game, but he advised Azah to let it go and focus on what's ahead.
Meanwhile, Xavier also had his eye on the prize and noted, "Every step has to be perfect and it has to be calculated. It's put up or shut up."
After Hannah was voted out of the game in a unanimous vote, Kyland told the cameras he was totally committed to going to the Final 2 with Xavier, but Xavier admitted he wanted to take Derek to the end instead.
It then became time for the next Head of Household competition, which would guarantee one player a spot in the Final 3 as well as the opportunity to compete in back-to-back Head of Household competitions.
Azah, as the outgoing HoH, was deemed ineligible to compete.
The competition, themed CSI: Vegas, required the participating houseguests to search for clues in a "crime scene" using a black light and collect five pieces of glowing evidence, such as a shoeprint or tire track.
After finding each clue, a player must remember what it looked like and match it to a piece of evidence on a giant wall -- comprised of many look-a-like pieces -- in the "BB Crime Lab."
The person to identify, collect and match the correct evidence in the fastest time would win Head of Household.
Xavier won the competition with a time of 10 minutes and 18 seconds, and Kyland finished in second place with a time of 14 minutes and 52 seconds. Derek placed third with a time of 15 minutes and 44 seconds.
Xavier said it felt amazing to put himself in a powerful position so late in the game, but Derek was upset because he wanted to be a leader and not ride other people's coattails.
Kyland was also "pretty disappointed" he had lost the HoH competition, although he said he trusted Xavier moving forward. But if someone won the Power of Veto, Kyland could end up on the chopping block and it wouldn't even be Xavier's fault.
Kyland worried about Azah winning the Power of Veto, especially.
"The Veto competition is the only real way to secure your spot in the Top 3," Derek acknowledged after giving Kyland some comfort.
Xavier said any of Kyland's fears were justified because if he didn't win the Power of Veto, there would be a good chance of him going home. Xavier said "there's only so much an HoH can do."
Azah asked Xavier if he had made a Final 2 with Kyland, and he denied it, and then Xavier assured Derek that he'd be making the Final 3.
Xavier explained to Derek how they could probably beat Azah in the Final 3 HoH competition but it would be difficult to beat Kyland, and then the guys wouldn't know whether Kyland would really take Derek or himself to the Final 2.
"Truthfully, if Big D cuts Kyland this week, he gets all the blood on his hands and Kyland has nothing negative to say about me to the jury," Xavier said in the Diary Room.
Derek didn't know how he felt about cutting Kyland early, especially since he loved Kyland dearly as a person and as a friend. But Xavier told Derek that he didn't need to make the decision right away.
At the subsequent Nomination Ceremony, Xavier announced he had decided to nominate Azah and Kyland for eviction.
Xavier pointed out how Azah had yet to be nominated for eviction, which spoke volumes about her social game and how everyone respected her as a person.
Xavier told Kyland that his competition record speaks for itself and he has a great smile. Xavier reminded everyone that the upcoming Power of Veto competition really held the power.
