The three acts who received the most home viewer votes and will compete in the semifinals are multimedia dance group Light Wire, Trapeze duo Sirca Marea, and singer Jourdan Blue.
Those three acts will join musician Steve Ray Ladson, who had received America's Got Talent judge Sofia Vergara's Golden Buzzer during Tuesday night's performance show.
The Golden Buzzer allows Steve to skip the semifinals completely and advance straight to the finals.
"You are a superstar," Sofia had told Steve after his impressive performance.
On Tuesday night's performance show, the first group of 11 quarterfinalist acts had taken the stage for Sofia and her fellow America's Got Talent judges Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, and Melanie "Mel B" Brown.
The 11 acts who had performed on Tuesday night were Steve, Jourdan, Light Wire, Sirca Marea, singer Charity Lockhart, dance group B Unique Crew, vocal trio CitiLimitz, dance group Loco Pop Familia, horror magic trio Phobias, comedian Shuler King, and Tom Sandoval and the Most Extras.
Based on the voting results, the Top 5 acts were B Unique Crew, Shuler King, Light Wire, Jourdan Blue, and Sirca Marea. B Unique Crew and Shuler King were therefore very close to staying in the competition.
On Wednesday night's results show, Terry announced the highest votegetters and the eliminations in small groups of two or three acts at a time.
When Loco Pop Familia and CitiLimitz were standing onstage together awaiting their fate, Terry announced that neither act had made it through.
The way the results were delivered angered Simon.
"That was very mean, producers," Simon scolded the higher ups. "I feel bad."

Charity's ouster was also a surprise given she had received Mel B's Golden Buzzer during the auditions.
Once the night came to an end, the following acts were sent home: CitiLimitz, Loco Pop Familia, Charity, Shuler King, B Unique Crew, Phobias, and Tom Sandoval and the Most Extras.
Tom rose to fame with his stint on Vanderpump Rules and the scandal in which he had cheated on his girlfriend of nearly a decade, Ariana Madix, with her then-best friend and co-star Raquel Leviss.
