Ali Fedotowsky has learned the hard way that kayaking can be dangerous.

The former The Bachelorette star and The Bachelor bachelorette landed herself in the hospital on Sunday after her kayak turned over in La Jolla, CA, during what was supposed to be a recreational activity, People reported Monday.

"Ali and Roberto had a little mishap when their kayak capsized this weekend," the reality TV star's representative told People. "Ali was taken to the hospital and had five staples put in her head."

Fedotowsky -- who got engaged on the sixth season of The Bachelorette to Roberto Martinez and has said the couple is planning a 2011 wedding -- admitted the incident scared her but noted her injury could have been avoided by taking one simple safety precaution.

"Made it out of the ER with staples in my head and a little less hair after falling out of a kayak. Scary stuff. Wearing a helmet next time," Fedotowsky wrote on Twitter on Sunday. "I think I freaked out more when the doctor cut my hair rather than when he put staples into my head. Lol. Very thankful to be ok :)."

Martinez apparently stood by his fiancee's side and aided her through the recovery process.

"Roberto was fantastic," Fedotowsky's representative added. "He kept her calm and took great care of her. She is doing fine, and actually off to work this morning."

Fedotowsky -- who moved to San Diego with Martinez following their engagement last summer and now works as an entertainment reporter for the local Fox affiliate -- said she is receovering well.

"Thanks so much everyone for your concern. Big headache, but managed to hide staples with hair part and I am back at work this morning :)," Fedotowsky tweeted.

Last week, The Style Network announced it is developing a lifestyle weekly series that would be co-hosted by Fedotowsky.
