Wife: Howard Stern as 'American Idol' judge not going to happen

By Christopher Rocchio, 06/28/2010

Beth Ostrosky thinks husband Howard Stern would be a wonderful addition to American Idol's judging panel but added she doesn't think it will happen.

"I think he would be great," the True Beauty judge told People in a Monday report. "But do I think it's going to happen? No."

Earlier this year, it was reported that American Idol had approached Stern to replace Simon Cowell after hearing his repeated on-air mentions that he is "open to other offers" once his current $500 million Sirius XM Radio deal expires in January 2011.

Stern subsequently confirmed he would be interested in the job and made numerous comments that suggested there was merit to the report, which was then denied by two American Idol insiders.

Ostrosky claims American Idol would be lucky to have her husband on its judging panel.

"I'm so lucky that I get to sit next to him when we watch American Idol every week," she told People.

"I'm in stitches, he's so funny but yet he's very serious about it. And he's also a big cheerleader for the contestants and he's very honest."

American Idol's recently-concluded ninth season was Cowell's last on the show's judging panel, as he will instead focus on launching his British The X Factor reality series for Fox in Fall 2011.
