VH1 has announced that will premiere The Pick-Up Artist, a new reality competition series that will pit eight guys against one another for the title of "Master Pick-Up Artist," on Monday, August 6 at 9PM ET/PT.

The Pick-Up Artist will begin with eight socially awkward guys living together and participating in an eight-week course designed to sharpen their skills when it comes to approaching and interacting with women.

The tricks of the trade will be taught to the contestants by pick-up guru Mystery and his two wingmen Matador and J Dog.  After each lesson -- which will feature topics like "how to open a set" and "the kiss close" -- the contestants will hit bars, clubs and coffee houses to try and put what they've learned to good use.

During each episode, the men will also compete in challenges that will grant one contestant immunity from an elimination process that will cut one guy at the end of each episode.  At the end of eight weeks, one of the guys will be named "Master Pick-Up Artist" and awarded $50,000.

If The Pick-Up Artist sounds a bit like a Beauty-less version of The CW's Beauty and the Geek, there's a good reason for that -- the show is being produced by 3 Ball Entertainment, the production company that co-produces Beauty and the Geek along with Ashton Kutcher and Jason Glodberg's Katalyst Films.

JD Roth and Adam Greener are executive producing The Pick-Up Artist for 3 Ball Entertainment, with Michael Hirschorn, Jeff Olde and Claire McCabe also serving as executive producers for VH1.
