Martha Stewart told NBC's "Today" show Thursday the first thing she did after her electronic monitoring device came off was sleep.

In her first TV appearance since her release from prison and the end of her house arrest for lying to a grand jury about a stock sale, Stewart noted it was after midnight when she finally removed the ankle monitor.

Rather than "celebrate," she was "really tired and just ready to go to sleep," People magazine reported.

Stewart's next stop on the talk circuit will be with David Letterman on his late night CBS talk show, two days before the premiere of her NBC show, "The Apprentice: Martha Stewart," the Hollywood Reporter said.

The Reporter said many were surprised she chose Letterman over his NBC rival, Jay Leno, but also noted she has made 23 appearances on the "Late Show with David Letterman" since its 1993 premiere.
