Joe then wrote to Sierra, "You've taught me to overcome the deepest darkest hardest moments by always remembering that love. It has taught me that i have more to give and more to share. There is always something to be discovered and i can't wait to know the gifts yet to come in the next year."

Sierra, in turn, wrote a lengthy message to her husband on Instagram.

"Joseph Francis, I promise to never stop holding your hand, kissing you at every red light, and dancing together in the kitchen every time we make dinner. I promise to tell you every day how much I love you and appreciate all that you do," Sierra captioned photos.

"I promise to continue to learn from you and to follow the examples of patience that you continuously set. I promise to trust and value your opinions and to continue to build upon the trust that we have. I promise to always be by your side fully and faithfully."

Sierra continued, "I promise to make sure I'm not just hungry when I get upset and to try my hardest, to step away from my stubbornness, and accept that, even to my dismay, I am not always right. With that said, as your wife, I will never keep score, even though I am totally winning because everything is always a competition."

Sierra promised to cherish their union and love Joe more each day than she did the day before.

"I will put you above all and first, always.. I promise to not just grow old together, but to grow together. Today, I give you my hand, my heart, and my love, forever. #anniversaryweekend #happyoneyearanniversary #myvowsareforever."

Sierra announced her engagement to Joe back in early April 2019 with an Instagram posting while Joe's Survivor: Edge of Extinction season was airing on CBS.

"Forever and ever, amen," Sierra captioned a close-up photo of the couple's hands with a pear-shaped engagement ring on her finger at the time.

Joe, a jewelry designer who has competed on Survivor three times, and Sierra, who has competed on Survivor twice, met when they competed against each other on Survivor: Worlds Apart, the 30th season of the show that aired on CBS in 2014.

However, the couple did not fall in love during Survivor: Worlds Apart -- in fact, Sierra voted Joe out of the game!

Joe attempted to use his flirtatious nature to manipulate Sierra during Survivor: Worlds Apart, but Joe told The Salt Lake Tribune last year "she was not having any of that."

"We really didn't even have that great of a relationship, even within the game... She voted me out, which she reminds me of every chance she gets," Joe shared with the newspaper.

According to Joe, the pair's "friendship developed" after the game when they both attended Survivor-related events or gatherings, and then they ultimately met each other's families.

"Neither of us was looking to have a relationship or find love on an island," insisted Joe, who grew up in Arizona but is now living in Utah with Sierra.

"You always say, 'Oh, what if?' But in reality, you know that's not going to happen. And you shouldn't couple up because it's bad for your games [to be viewed as a power pair]. But, again, all this happened after the fact."

Joe said he and Sierra realized how much they had in common as time progressed.

As for Sierra, she also returned for Survivor: Game Changers, the franchise's 34th season.
