The Style Network has announced that Ruby, a new reality series that will chronicle a 500-pound woman's attempts to lose weight, will premiere on Sunday, November 9 at 8PM ET/PT.

The nine-episode series will follow Ruby Gettinger, a Savannah, GA resident, as she struggles to lose weight after her doctor informs her that her obesity has become a matter of life or death.

In addition to Gettinger, the show will also focus on her friends and family -- including her nephew Jim, roommate Jeff, and best friend Georgia.  Various doctors, dieticians, a psychiatrist, and a trainer will also help Gettinger as they teach her the effects her weight and bad food habits have had on her body, get her to exercise, and help her confront some childhood memory issues.

During the season, Gettinger -- who once weighed 700 pounds at her heaviest point -- will also reunite with an old boyfriend who left her because she couldn't lose weight and travel to Los Angeles meet with "old friends" trainer Billy Blanks Jr. and actress Brittany Daniel.

The Style Network ordered Ruby back in May.  The series is being produced by Gay Rosenthal Productions, with Gay Rosenthal, Paul Barrosse, Tim Puntillo, and The Style Network executive Sarah Weidman serving as the show's executive producers.

Daniel -- who will also serve as a consulting executive producer -- became friends with Gettinger when she was living in Los Angeles seven years ago.

"Ruby really wants to inspire people," Daniel told The Hollywood Reporter back in May. "And she's so entertaining and hysterical, so it's going to be an inspirational but also a really fun show."
