As in the first season, the program will feature a group of women fiercely competing for their chance at a grand prize package that includes a professional modeling contract. However, new to this season will be an increase in the number of competitors increase from ten to twelve (along with an expansion in the series' run run from last season's six episodes to eight), and changes to the judges panel. While former supermodel Janice Dickinson will join Banks as a returning member of the judging panel, they will be joined by newcomers Eric Nicholson, a Jane magazine senior fashion editor, photographer Nigel Barker, and a rotating roster of guest judges.

The first season of America's Next Top Model was UPN's highest-rated program last season among all adult women. Created by world-renowned supermodel Tyra Banks, who executive produces the series with Ken Mok (Making the Band and the upcoming The Partridge Family), the show follows the young wannabe models as they live together in a New York loft, receive mentoring from Banks, exposure to high-profile fashion industry gurus and compete in weekly tests that determine who makes the cut to the next round gets the chance to vie for the grand prize.

Adrianne Curry, a 20-year-old Joliet, Illinois waitress, won the first season's competition.
