According to People, Ballas and Toscano mutually decided to call it quits after they had a "heart-to-heart talk" about their busy work schedules earlier this week.
"They both decided with everything going on that they couldn't give each other what would be fair," a source told People. "They mutually decided this."
Ballas recently began rehearsing with former The Hills star Kristin Cavallari for this fall's Dancing with the Stars edition, which premieres next week, while Toscano just finished American Idol's nationwide summer concert tour and is completing her upcoming debut album.
Reports that Toscano and Ballas were dating had first surfaced when the couple was spotted leaving a Los Angeles restaurant after having dinner together on April 8 -- one night after she was unexpected eliminated from American Idol's tenth season in a results show shocker.
