Kristy Lee Cook was keeping a secret during her American Idol journey.

Cook and boyfriend Andy Dobner have been engaged since March 15, the recently ousted seventh-season finalist told reporters during a Thursday conference call.

"We tried to keep everything on the down-low -- just because I didn't want it to get in the way and I didn't want to be thinking about everything.  I just wanted to focus on music and American Idol," said Cook.  "So he reenacted the proposal [last night], and actually got down on his knee this time.  The first time he didn't, so he owed it to me."

Cook, a  24-year-old from Selma, OR, said the initial proposal took place a few days after she was revealed to be a Top 11 finalist.

"It's kind of hard to get out without bodyguards and stuff, so we he came over and hung out at the [Idol] apartment and said, 'Let's go talk.'  So we looked around for a place to talk, and pretty much everywhere we went there was people around," explained Cook.

"So we went to the weight room and were walking around there.  There was the sauna, and the sauna was turned off but the light was on, so we decided to go in there and just talk.  He proposed to me in the sauna."

While the two were able to keep the secret for more than a month, the cat was out of the bag when Dobner re-proposed while Cook was being interviewed on the Fox Reality network's American Idol Extra program after Idol's live Fox broadcast had concluded.

"That was not planned.  I had mentioned to him a long time if we ever got married if he'd propose to me on American Idol," she said.  "He was like, 'There is no way I would ever get in front of that many people and do that.'  I was like, 'Okay.'  But last night was kind of crazy because he got put on the spot and he ended up pulling through.  I don't think he wanted to pull out, so he did it."

Cook said she and Andy met at Rosso's Restaurant in Grants Pass, OR -- which is where she was employed before making it on Idol.  Cook added the engagement ring -- which "has quite a few diamonds on it" -- was actually something she had a hand in selecting.

"We picked it out a long time ago -- just kind of for fun, shopping around for rings," she said.  "We found one that we really liked.  I had no clue that he was going to pop the question.  But he ended up doing that."

While she may be off Idol, Cook still has the show's annual summer tour looming and said there's no definite date yet for the nuptials.

"We haven't set a date yet.  We're planning maybe around next June.  But we don't have a for-sure date," she said.
