Break out those leather jackets and Pink Lady pajamas -- it's time for America to begin choosing the leads for this summer's Broadway production of Grease, as NBC's Grease: You're the One That I Want revealed its Top 12 finalists at the conclusion of last night's broadcast.
The finalists will start performing live on Sunday, January 28 during a special two-hour episode from 7PM to 9PM ET/PT featuring guest judge Olivia Newton-John.
The nationwide auditions to find the next Danny and Sandy aired during the reality series first two broadcasts, which saw hopefuls in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York singing and dancing for the show's three regular judges -- Tony Award-winner director and choreographer Kathleen Marshall, Grease co-creator Jim Jacobs and theater producer David Ian.
In last night's episode, those who made it through the auditions found themselves at "Grease Academy," where they were trained by professional acting, dance and vocal coaches and did some more singing and dancing. The judges then selected six Dannys and six Sandys for the finals.
Originally scheduled to only feature six live episodes and eliminate two finalists each week, NBC announced last Wednesday that it had ordered two additional live Grease episodes, bringing the show's total run to eight, the first of which will air this Sunday. NBC isn't commenting on exactly how the two additional episodes will change the show's previously announced elimination format, however based on a teaser aired at the conclusion of last night's broadcast, a surprise twist relating to the number of finalists appears to be in the works.
