NBC confirms it's giving Victoria Beckham her own reality series

By Christopher Rocchio, 03/01/2007

Formally confirming reports that began emerging earlier this week, NBC has announced that it has signed former Spice Girl Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham to a reality TV show deal that will give viewers an inside look at her "glamorous life" with soccer-star husband David Beckham.

The still untitled series -- scheduled to air as six half-hour episodes sometime this summer -- will be produced by 19 Entertainment, the company run by Beckman manager and American Idol creator Simon Fuller.

"I am so excited to be making this show for NBC with Simon Fuller. He has so much success around the world with his TV shows and the respect and trust of everybody he works with," said Beckham.  "This show is really something different, it's pushing the boundaries and I think it's going to surprise a lot of people."

The Beckhams married in July 1999 and quickly became a celebrity couple in Britain and across the world.  They have three children together:  Brooklyn Joseph, Romeo James and Cruz David.  This past January, David Beckham announced he was leaving the Real Madrid soccer club to join Major League Soccer's Los Angeles Galaxy -- taking his wife and the rest of the family across the Atlantic from England to America.

"For the past few years, I've been inundated with requests to make a show based on Victoria's real life. After much thought, we have finally decided to do it," said Fuller, who prior to becoming Victoria Beckman's personal manager, also managed the Spice Girls during the peak of their success.

"The series will give viewers a glimpse into what makes Victoria so popular and admired as one of the most glamorous women in the world," NBC Entertainment president Kevin Reilly added.  "She makes news wherever she goes and our audience can now become insiders in this fascinating personal view of what being 'Posh' truly represents."

Fuller and his sister Kim Fuller will serve as the show's executive producers.  "[NBC] has been extremely supportive in allowing us to do something a little different," said Simon Fuller.  "This show will cross all genres and hopefully will pleasantly surprise a few people!"

In addition to working on Victoria Beckman's NBC deal, Simon Fuller also brokered her husband's $250 million deal with the Galaxy.
