Mia Michaels announces she's leaving 'So You Think You Can Dance'

So You Think You Can Dancechoreographer and guest judge Mia Michaels has announced that she is leaving the Fox reality dancing competition.
"It's been an amazing five years on SYTYCD. I thank them for all the great memories and movement I have been able to create for the world," Michaels wrote in a Wednesday night posting to her Facebook account, according to E! News.
"Today was my official resignation of the U.S. show and look forward to what's ahead for me."
The show had previously used a rotating series of guest judges -- including Michaels and fellow choreographers Lil'C, Tyce Diorio, and Debbie Allen, among others -- to fill the third seat alongside Lythgoe and Murphy.
Lythgoe subsequently told reporters during a conference call that he wanted Shankman to permanently fill the seat so the other choreographers could focus on what they do best.
"I want them choreographing, and the minute they choreograph they're not allowed to be a judge," said Lythgoe before adding that So You Think You Can Dance would still have guest judges joining the panel, just not every week.
"We will still have an open chair. I'd still like Paula Abdul to pop in. I'd still like guest judges to pop in when they can. Jennifer Lopez has said how much she likes the program. I'd love her to come in and sit down for a week... I just don't want four judges every week. It's when available, when possible, they will judge."
Michaels still participated in So You Think You Can Dance's pre-taped sixth-season "Las Vegas Round," which has aired the past two weeks.
The Top 20 sixth-season finalists will be revealed during next Wednesday's broadcast at 8PM ET/PT.
