The outspoken rapper obtained his 40th Top 40 hit over the weekend with his Schoolboy Q collaboration That Part moving two spots up from 42 to 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Previously West was tied with Jackson with 39 Top 40 hits each and still lags behind record holder Elvis Presley who had 80.

The 39-year-old will now contend with fellow music legends and peers Marvin Gaye (41), Chris Brown (42), JAmes Brown (44), Jay Z (45), Stevie Wonder (46), Drake (53), Elton John (57) and Lil Wayne (69).

West has expressed how the King of Pop has influenced him before previously noting in 2013 to BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe how he credits Jackson for paving the way for his career.

"Like, for me, as Kanye West, I would not be Kanye West if it wasn't for Michael Jackson," he said at the time.

"So for me, in my life and creativity it's been challenging, yeah, it's been challenging and everything. But I was able to ascend to massive heights because of the foundation that my mother and my father and my grandfather laid through civil rights, what Michael Jackson did with music videos and the ground he broke. There would be no Kanye West if it wasn't for Michael Jackson."
