The 30-year-old singer, who won the last season of the popular reality series, has claimed comments he made in an earlier magazine interview were mistakenly seen as insults against the Fox series, In Touch Online reported.

Hicks said when he told Relix magazine series execs pressured him into recording his first single, "Do I Make You Proud," it was not meant to degrade the reality TV show in any way.

"Those words were taken completely out of context," the singer claimed. "I'm very thankful to have the opportunity to be on 'American Idol.' It's a show that teaches a lot of young people about music and ties families together. I'm very grateful."

The Web site said the "American Idol" champion is set to launch his self-titled debut album Dec. 12, just in time for Christmas.
