Fox orders Simon Cowell's new 'Duets' singing celebrities show

"American Idol" judge Simon Cowell is working on another singing competition for Fox TV, it was reported Monday.

The network has given Cowell the go-ahead to line up a cast for approval for "Duets," which will pair professional singers with celebrity contestants in front of a live audience and panel of judges, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Cowell sold the format to Britain's ITV last month, The Reporter noted.

Cowell's SYCO production company will be executive producer for the show, but he will not appear as a judge, The Reporter said.

Over at ABC, Cowell is executive producer of a reality competition called "American Inventor," which will search for a new product or concept.
