Dan Quayle won't be going Dancing with the Stars.

"I can tell you that he is not doing the show," Quayle spokesman Craig Whitney told The Indianapolis Star in a Wednesday report.

The former U.S. Vice President was reported to be on "the short list" of celebrity participants being courted by ABC for Dancing with the Stars' seventh season.

While Whitney told The Star that ABC made "contact" about Quayle appearing on the show, that's about as far as it got.

"There was interest in having him be on the show," Whitney told The Star. "[But] it's not like he said he was going to do it."

The 61-year-old Quayle is a former Indiana senator and also served as vice president under George H. W. Bush from 1989 to 1993.

"Is he a big dancer? No," Whitney told The Star about Quayle.  "There's been quite a bit made of nothing, to be honest."

Dancing with the Stars seventh season will premiere with a special two-hour performance episode on Monday, September 22 at 8PM ET/PT.

ABC will formally reveal the show's seventh-season cast during Good Morning America's August 25 broadcast.
