Jason Wahler's had a tough year marred by several alcohol-fueled arrests, however things are apparently looking up for the former Laguna Beach and The Hills star.

With his spring stint in rehab behind him, Wahler proposed to college tennis player Katja Decker-Sadowski on Saturday during a housewarming party at their new Los Angeles home, his representative confirmed in a People report published Tuesday.

The 20-year-old reality TV star popped the question to the 19-year-old University of Souther California freshman with a four-carat emerald cut diamond, according to People, adding the engagement took place in-front of a group of friends -- including his ex-girlfriend, The Hills star Lauren "L.C." Conrad.

For once, Wahler has made news for something that didn't end with him being arrested.

Last September, he reportedly punched a tow-truck driver as well as a Los Angeles city employee and was accused of using racial slurs against two of the victims, who are African-American. He pleaded no contest to one count of battery and received a two-month jail sentence and was also required to attend a one-day program at the Museum of Tolerance.  However one of the victims -- a Los Angeles traffic cop -- recently filed an assault and civil rights lawsuit against Wahler.

In March, Wahler was arrested in Greenville, NC for underage drinking and resisting a public officer during a raid at a local nightclub.  Then only a month after being sentenced for the alleged September beating, Wahler was arrested on April 8 in Seattle and booked on charges of assault and criminal trespassing.

On April 12 Wahler began a stay in Orange County's Chapman House inpatient rehab facility in lieu of his prison stint.  He was released from the facility in June upon completing two months of rehab for alcohol abuse.

Wahler is scheduled to make an appearance in the September 10 episode of The Hills, according to People, and he is also currently filming MTV's new Dancing with the Stars-like Celebrity Rap Superstar reality competition series as one of its participants.

A wedding date has not been set for Wahler and Decker-Sadowski, who have reportedly been dating for roughly six months.
