Melissa Rycroft has confirmed that she got engaged over the weekend to boyfriend Ty Strickland.

"I got engaged this weekend!  It was a complete surprise," said the rejected The Bachelor bachelorette and former Dancing with the Stars celebrity participant during a Tuesday morning phone interview on ABC's Good Morning America, for which she is currently working as a correspondent.

In addition, Rycroft also confirmed details about the proposal -- including that it occurred privately on Friday night in Southlake, TX before the couple celebrated in public with family and friends.

"He kind of took me on a wild goose chase on Friday night," said Rycroft on GMA.  "He ended up taking me to a little, quiet place in Southlake, TX and doing it privately.  Then we went and met-up with our parents and friends."

Rycroft said she and Strickland met "about three years ago at a mutual friend's birthday party" before they dated "on/off."

The couple was off when Rycroft appeared on The Bachelor's thirteenth season, which filmed last fall.

She got engaged to Jason Mesnick during the taping of The Bachelor's Final Rose Ceremony in November -- but he later dumped her on-air in favor of runner-up Molly Malaney during a January taping of the season's After the Final Rose special.

"America first met you on a show," GMA anchor Robin Roberts said to Rycroft during the interview. "Things didn't quite work out there..."

"Thankfully," replied Rycroft.  "Sometimes the stars align and the clouds part and everything works out the way it should."
