According to court documents obtained by Us Weekly, Emma listed April 1, 2022, as the spouses' date of separation, and she cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for their split.

"With Sasha, we're still like family, so it isn't even really that the love is not there; it's actually not that at all," Emma said during the Tuesday, August 15 episode of the "The Viall Files" podcast, which is hosted by Season 21 The Bachelor star and former DWTS contestant Nick Viall.

"We're just potentially in two different places, but the hard part was that the love actually didn't go [away]. We still have that."

Emma went on to confess, "It's really the kid thing," that broke them up.

Emma explained how the real reason for ending her marriage to Sasha, who also competes as a pro partner on Dancing with the Stars, is because she's not ready to start a family yet -- and he'd apparently like to try for a baby soon.

"It's very interesting because I do want to have kids; I just don't want to delay Sasha's path in having kids, because I think -- well, I know -- that he is ready for that," Emma explained.

"I don't want to talk about him too much because that's really for him to say, but it's about kids."

Emma confirmed, however, "I do want kids. I don't know what it is, I'm just figuring that out for myself."

Nick acknowledged having a child is a big step for a couple, and Emma agreed.

"Oh yeah, and it's not something I take lightly," the dancer and choreographer noted, "I don't want to enter into something that I'm not sure about, because I just would never do that."

While Emma said she and Sasha "did have" conversations about family planning throughout the course of their relationship, she's staying true to herself.

"This situation has really been me kind of feeling, like, a resistance in life and not knowing what that is or why I'm feeling it, and then coming to terms with that in the last few years," Emma said.

"So, that's been the real friction and that's been the real hard part," she admitted.

"It really had nothing to do with him. He's always been very much himself. It's really me that's been the person who has found it difficult to understand, 'Why am I suddenly feeling different?' It was even a sudden thing, it was a gradual thing. And it's something I just had to deal with."

Emma said she had been pushing off having to make a decision about kids, but then the time came to seriously discuss it with Sasha.

Emma therefore said it's been "really weird" and "really confusing" to navigate their split and figure out how they actually feel.

Emma noted she and Sasha are "still very, very much in the thick" of their divorce proceedings, and so she's leaned on family and friends for support and comfort.

But Emma apparently has no desire to rush back into the dating scene. In fact, she joked about how she currently has no love life -- "none" at all.

"Honestly, I have visions of a guy walking into my life that is -- and I don't know if I should say this because it's way too much information -- but I see, like, a tall guy with, I don't know why, but blue eyes and, maybe, British," Emma gushed.

"Someone like, that would be ideal. I don't know why that's coming to my head... [And] blonde. I don't know a guy like that."

Nick jokingly pointed out, "So [you want] the opposite of your ex."

Emma laughed but insisted it has "nothing to do" with Sasha.

"So, Sash, I absolutely love and I think he's gorgeous and I just have so much respect for him, but it's more of [that] I just see this vision. I don't know where it's coming from," Emma clarified.

Emma and Sasha have maintained a united front and appear to have an amicable relationship, but Emma shared how going through a breakup in the public eye is "so hard."

"It's really difficult when you're trying to navigate how you feel and you're trying to keep that respect for your relationship when everybody has an opinion, and of course they do because you're on TV and in public together," the DWTS mirrorball champion said.

"It is really difficult. Privacy is something that I really, really value, and I think, moving forward, that's going to be something I try to keep with my partner. But it is difficult and it's very emotional."

Emma and Sasha got married in March 2018, but they've had an on-again, off-again relationship for more than 10 years.

Speculation the pair had split surfaced in early 2022 when they stopped posting about each other on Instagram.

And then in August of that year, both Emma and Sasha were spotted without their wedding rings and seemed to be spending a lot of time apart.

A source told Us at the time how the pro dancers had "a tough decision" to make about their future and so they were "figuring out" what life would look like if they're not together.

"It's been a difficult time since they really care about each other and have been together for so long," the source added.

"[But] they're pros and won't let their personal life get in the way of Dancing with the Stars."

Emma and Sasha met in 2009 while performing on Broadway's "Burn The Floor" and they began dating in 2011. The pair broke up once before in 2014.

During that 2014 break, Emma told Glamour, "I don't think we're supposed to finish together."

"I think there are other people that might make us both individually happy, but I'm always going to be his best friend," she elaborated. "It has just happened in the way we have gone from a beautiful three-year relationship, which I love and cherish, to best friends."

Emma and Sasha eventually got back together and then Sasha proposed marriage to the blonde beauty in 2016. The former couple tied the knot in a "fairy tale" wedding in Los Angeles two years later.

Emma and Sasha both competed on Dancing with the Stars' 31st season late last year, which wrapped in November.

Sasha was partnered with actress Selma Blair, who had to withdraw from the competition in Week 5 due to her battle with multiple sclerosis, and Emma and her celebrity partner, actor Trevor Donovan, finished the show in sixth place.

Emma and Trevor -- a tall blonde, Reality TV World must point out -- raised eyebrows with their noticeable onstage chemistry.

Emma told Us during the Dancing with the Stars season that it was "so easy" to be herself with Trevor.

"We have a very familiar and light chemistry. It's a fun thing. It can show up as passion on the dance floor, but we're just having fun," Trevor explained in the joint interview.

"We have fun every day we rehearse even when she's about to explode because I'm doing things wrong that I used to do right. But it's the levity and the lightness of our friendship and stuff, I think, that really translates to the dance."
