"Both of their schedules were too crazy," a source told Us of the break-up. "They had different priorities."
According to another source, Simpson initiated the split because he felt he "needed to experience" life.
Hadid, an 18-year-old who was recently featured in Sports Illustrated, is the daughter of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Yolanda Foster and her ex-husband.
News of Simpson and Hadid's split ironically comes only one week after the pop singer gushed about his relationship after filming his latest music video for "Surfboard," which Hadid had starred in.
"I try to keep my personal life and my public life separate, but I was like, 'Why not kind of mix the two?'" Simpson recently told Us. "They honestly had to tell us to stop [kissing] after they cut."
Simpson was paired with newbie pro dancer Witney Carson for his stint on Dancing with the Stars. They were the fourth couple eliminated from the season.
