Dancing with the Stars has signed on Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter.

After Dancing with the Stars requested Carter's participation four years in a row, the fifth time was apparently the charm because he's agreed to compete on Season 21 this fall, Us Weekly reported.

"I'm excited," Carter told Us. "I hope maybe I can become a better dancer! It'll be a great experience to learn how to ballroom dance."

Carter's formal boyband rival from 'N Sync, Joey Fatone, reportedly talked him into the gig because he had loved his time on Dancing with the Stars' fourth and fifteenth seasons.

"[Joey] talks about it all the time and I was really debating if I wanted to do it, and he said, 'It's a great experience, it keeps you in shape and it'll teach you a lot of stuff,'" Carter said of his friend's advice. "He said, 'You'll get what you put into it.' And I'm a hard worker, so I think it'll be fun."

Carter also wouldn't mind potentially showing up his little brother Aaron Carter, who appeared on Season 9 with pro partner Karina Smirnoff and finished in fifth place.

"My brother was on it; he did great; and he's a great little dancer and entertainer so I saw it through his eyes throughout that experience," Carter revealed. "And there's a lot of competitiveness in me and I think there's a little something inside of me that says, 'Okay, I'm going to go there and represent the Carter name and do even better than what he did!'"

Carter has performed with the Backstreet Boys since their group officially formed in Spring 1993, but ironically, he still feels there is room for improvement on the dance floor.

"I never considered myself a great dancer. Even though funny enough I've danced my entire life, I might have had a little insecurity on that end. But I felt this time around I had some time and I think it'll be a cool experience. I think they can teach me some stuff," he explained.

And another plus of joining the ABC reality dancing competition next season?

"I have a tendency to get overweight pretty damn fast," Carter confessed with a laugh, "so dancing has always kept me slim."

Carter already has ties to reality TV, as he had starred in House of Carters with his family in addition to I (Heart) Nick Carter.

Carter joins previously-announced DWTS contestant Bindi Irwin as well as triple-crown jockey Victor Espinoza in the cast. The rest of Season 21's lineup will be revealed September 2 on Good Morning America.
