CBS Sues ABC; Mark Burnett Goes Sitcom!

E! News Online reports that CBS/Viacom has gone forward with a lawsuit against ABC/Disney regarding its claim that the British show I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here!, which ABC plans to bring to America in 2003, is a complete rip-off of the intellectual property of its hit Survivor. Viacom seeks to stop the show and to collect substantial punitive damages from Disney as well.

The lawsuit echoes one brought in the UK by Castaway Productions, owners of the Survivor franchise, against Celebrity's British creators, and was predicted in an earlier article on RealityTVWorld.com.

Additionally, E! reports that Mark Burnett, executive producer of Survivor and Eco-Challenge, will oversee production of a new WB sitcom, about a father who takes his teenage children to Europe to meet his new fiancee. We'd wager that the sitcom will be a lot more fun to watch than Burnett's show Combat Missions was....
