Bahamian officials investigating Anna Nicole Smith's residency claim

UPI News Service, 10/26/2006

Authorities in the Bahamas are investigating just who owns the home where Anna Nicole Smith has been living and her residency status.

Immigration Minister Shane Gibson told lawmakers Wednesday night officials were looking into claims an American developer is the real owner of the estate where Smith has been ensconced.

Thursday's Bahamas Journal reports developer Ben Thompson of South Carolina is fighting with Smith over ownership. The pair had a brief relationship last year and now Smith is claiming he had given her the home. Thompson says he did so with the understanding Smith would buy the property from him, and now he wants her to move out.

The flap comes as the Bahamian government investigates the untimely death of Smith's son, and faces political flak for the relatively short time it took Smith to obtain permanent residency in the Bahamas.
