A&E's new 'Parking Wars' reality series to premiere January 8

By Christopher Rocchio, 12/13/2007

A&E Network has announced Parking Wars, a new Airline-like reality series that will follow Philadelphia Parking Authority employees as they hand-out tickets and deal with the aftermath, will premiere with back-to-back half-hour episodes on Tuesday, January 8 at 10PM ET/PT.

Parking Wars will document the day-to-day life of the men and women of the Philadelphia Parking Authority, offering viewers a "behind the scenes ride" as they dispense parking violations and citations to often irate individuals.  In addition, the show will also feature other individuals who work for the PPA, such as tow-truck drivers responsible for moving vehicles violating the law and impound lot employees forced to face impatient citizens.

In Parking Wars premiere episode, a broken meter causes a brouhaha between a PPA employee and a citizen; a team responsible for booting vehicles encounters a woman with an emotional attachment to her vehicle; and an impound lot employee has a five-hour face-off with a man trying to get his Mercedes back.

PPA employees featured on Parking Wars include ticketing officers Danielle Connor, Brian Koehler, Tiffany Bennard, Marylin Rodriguez, and Luz Castro; boot crew members Steve Garfield and Sherry Royal; towers Clarence Nichols and John Farmer; and impound lot crew members Yolanda Dreher and Larry Berger.

The PPA was established in 1950 and receives an average of 80,000 calls each month, while still managing an impressive average hold time of only 19 seconds.  It employs close to 300 ticketing officers; tows roughly 950 vehicles each week; and houses approximately 1,100 vehicles at any given time in its 5.7-acre impound lot.

Parking Wars is produced for A&E by Hybrid Films.  Robert Sharenow and Laura Fleury are executive producers for A&E, while Daniel Elias and David Houts serve the same role for Hybrid.
