'The Amazing Race' host Phil Keoghan to embark on cross-country road trip

By Reality TV World staff, 02/28/2005

The Amazing Race host Phil Keoghan is about to embark on an amazing journey of his own. Beginning Wednesday, March 2, Keoghan will motor coast-to-coast on a 10-city 12-day cross-country tour intended to promote the new The Amazing Race 7 season and casting for next fall's The Amazing Race 8.

Keoghan's road trip will begin on Wednesday's broadcast of CBS's The Early Show and finish with an appearance on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson on Monday, March 14. Along the way, Keoghan's cross-country tour will stop in New York City (3/2), Cleveland (3/3), Chicago (3/4), Detroit (3/5), St. Louis (3/7), Kansas City (3/8), Denver (3/9), Albuquerque (3/10), Phoenix (3/11) and Los Angeles (3/14).

During his journey across America, Keoghan will encourage families who are seeking the ultimate family adventure to apply for The Amazing Race 8 -- the special "family edition" of The Amazing Race that CBS announced earlier this month. In addition, Keoghan will also make several bookstore appearances during the journey, participating in book signings for his new book N.O.W. - No Opportunity Wasted

A departure from the show's first seven editions, The Amazing Race 8 will be an "all family" edition featuring four-person teams comprised exclusively of family members 12 years of age or older. According to CBS, examples of eligible "family edition" teams include traditional families (mom, dad and two kids), blended families (newly married with step siblings), four sisters, four brothers, multi-generational (grandparents and grandchildren) and engaged couples with in-laws-to-be.

Families interested in applying can download an application from CBS.com. The Amazing Race 8's "family edition" is currently scheduled to be a one-time occurrence. The Amazing Race 9 will return to the series’ regular format in which teams must have a unique and a prior relationship with their teammate, but need not be related.

The Amazing Race 7 will premiere Tuesday, March 1 at 9PM ET/PT.
