Simon Cowell reportedly felt blindsided and tricked when he discovered his former close friend's wife Lauren Silverman is pregnant with his baby.

"The pregnancy has taken him by surprise. He assumed she was using birth control," a source close to Simon told The New York Daily News. "Simon thought this was a casual relationship -- friends with benefits. The pregnancy was not planned."

Added the source, "He is feeling tricked. No question that Simon will want to be part of the baby's life, but I'm not so sure he wants to be part of Lauren's."

While Wednesday's initial Us Weekly report that Lauren is 10 weeks pregnant with Simon's baby claimed she and her husband Andrew Silverman had been unhappy and estranged for some time before she began her relationship with Simon, Andrew is alleging otherwise.

In his July 15 divorce filing, Andrew cites adultery as the reason his marriage to Lauren is ending and names Simon a co-respondent, The New York Post reported Thursday.

Simon, however, reportedly only found out about the pregnancy on July 10 and the 53-year-old The X Factor creator and judge never thought his affair with Lauren would get to this point.

"She told him around that time," another source told The Daily News. "He didn't have a clue before then and it has come as a complete surprise... Simon has repeatedly said he doesn't want kids."

Upon learning he allegedly has a baby on the way, Simon reportedly panicked and immediately sought out publicist Max Clifford to "plan a strategy to deal with it."

"He feels let down by Lauren," the second source explained. "They were friends first and foremost. This could be a 'spite my husband' sort of thing. Simon is convinced it was her friends who leaked the story."

As for Simon's friends, they apparently believe Lauren is a gold digger and got pregnant on purpose for financial perks.

"She has a thing for rich, powerful men," a Simon friend told The Daily News. "She knows having Simon's baby will mean he will always be in her life and he is a very wealthy and generous man."
