Raven Gates is a girl who speaks her mind, and while that's a quality The Bachelor star Nick Viall clearly respects, he didn't appreciate one comment she made on the latest episode.

Many of Viall's bachelorettes were livid and disappointed in last week's episode after he gave Corinne Olympios the season's first group-date rose moments after she took her bikini top off in front of everyone and interrupted multiple conversations he was having with other women.

"If Nick likes someone who is leading with their sexuality, then no wonder this is the fourth time for him," Gates told the cameras in a confessional, adding that she doesn't really care if her remark sounds mean.

In a recent interview with Glamour, Viall addressed Gates' little catty statement -- which referenced Viall's two stints on The Bachelorette and one on Bachelor in Paradise before signing on as The Bachelor's Season 21 star to hopefully find lasting love.

"I wasn't particularly in love with that comment," Viall confessed. "A lot of people have this perception that doing it four times is a failure. It's not a competition."

Viall finished as the runner-up on both Andi Dorfman and Kaitlyn Bristowe's The Bachelorette seasons. He was prepared to propose to both ladies when they decided to dump him for other men they loved more.

"I look at it like this: Look at Andi and Kaitlyn. I connected with two women that in reality I realize I wasn't their type, but I was able to build very strong connections with both women," Viall explained.

"It didn't work out and probably for the best, but there were also 24 men who went home before I did on both of those seasons. So, there were a lot of great things about those relationships. Ultimately they didn't work out because I don't think they were supposed to work out."

Viall insisted, however, that doesn't necessarily mean that he did something wrong.

"I don't think if I would have done anything different that those relationships then would have worked out," Viall noted.

Viall entered a romance with Jennifer Saviano on Season 3 of Bachelor in Paradise, which ended in tears for both individuals. Although Viall liked Saviano a lot, he never fell in love with her and therefore couldn't give the brunette beauty his heart.

"And then with Jen... it wasn't the right fit. I don't look at it [like I'm a failure] when people [like Raven] make comments like that. Am I a sexual person? Sure. Again, it's only the second episode that has aired so far," Viall told Glamour.

"I think people will find that I do like a good conversation. I do enjoy an intellectual woman. Let's be honest, there are a lot of beautiful, sexy women I sent home Night 1 that I wasn't able to connect with."

Viall specifically named Angela Amezcua, a 26-year-old model from Greenville, SC, as an example.

"You look at Angela, someone who is a model and is beautiful, and I just didn't connect with her on a cerebral level. Again, it's early. I think you'll see a lot of criticisms and ideas thrown out there, but it's part of what it is," Viall said.

Viall also went into The Bachelor anticipating candid conversations about sex. He wasn't going to pretend to be someone he's not.

"I'm someone who thinks sex is a positive thing... People have a variety of opinions about sex," Viall explained.

"I think people should be respectful of other people's opinions on it, but I'm glad overall that sex is talked about on a show that is about love and finding someone. Sex is a part of that. I'm glad that it is talked about even at the expense of my personal life."
