Peta Murgatroyd has shared how she believes her husband, fellow Dancing with the Stars pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy, would make a "perfect judge" on Dancing with the Stars.

Longtime Dancing with the Stars judge Len Goodman announced his retirement at the end of the series' 31st season on Disney+ late last year, which leaves an open spot on the judging panel for next season if DWTS maintains its current four-judge format.

Many fans have been rooting for Maksim to fill the vacant seat and judge Season 32 alongside Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Derek Hough -- and Peta has revealed to Us Weekly that she'd "of course" encourage Maksim to take on that new role, if the opportunity presents itself.

Peta, 36, also confirmed Maksim would "of course" accept an offer to judge Dancing with the Stars.

"He would love to do that," Peta insisted of her husband of five years, not long after retired pro Cheryl Burke said she'd also love to be a judge on Dancing with the Stars.

"I don't know. I think that's his next step. I think that he's born to do that stuff. He loves to talk. You know Maks, he will talk your ear off."

Maksim, 43, already has a little judging experience.

Not only has Maksim served as a guest judge on Dancing with the Stars before, but in early 2022, he announced he had signed on to judge the Ukrainian version of World of Dance.

Maksim was actually in Kyiv, Ukraine filming the reality dancing competition's first season when Russia invaded Ukraine and the war broke out.

"He will give you advice. He will, like, lecture you," Peta said of Maksim. "That's the type of guy he is. He's got so much passion behind what he says, and I think that that's, you know, the perfect spot for him. But we'll see."

Peta and Maksim welcomed a son Shai, now six, together in January 2017. The couple then got married in July 2017 after five years of dating.

Peta is currently pregnant with the couple's second child, who is due in June 2023, after experiencing years of fertility issues.

The unexpected pregnancy occurred only months after Peta did a June 2022 interview in which she had revealed she was currently undergoing in vitro fertilization after suffering three miscarriages in the prior two years.

Peta competed on Season 31 of Dancing with the Stars last fall, however her participation in the competition ended up being unusually brief. She and her celebrity partner, actor Jason Lewis, were eliminated at the conclusion of Season 31's premiere when it streamed live on Disney+ on September 19.

Peta and Jason were eliminated after they landed in the bottom-two couples based on the combined total of judges' scores and viewer votes that were cast live throughout the two-hour premiere.

Len, Derek, Carrie Ann, and Bruno were then tasked with saving either The Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice and her partner Pasha Pashkov (the other couple in the premiere's bottom-two) or Peta and Jason, and opted to save Teresa and Pasha.

When asked if she'd like to return to Dancing with the Stars herself, Peta said, "I would love to be [a pro partner again], if they want me."

"I'm here, I'm willing," she noted. "I'll give birth and jump back in within, you know, the seven weeks that I did with Shai. I went back with Nick Viall that season, and I would gladly do it again."

Maksim joined Dancing with the Stars as a pro partner for Season 2 and competed through Season 25 with the exception of seven years. In addition to sitting out of Season 6, Maksim decided not to participate in Seasons 16 and 17.

Maksim also took a long break after Season 18, when he won his only mirrorball trophy with celebrity Meryl Davis, until his return for Season 23, when he was partnered with Amber Rose.

During his time on Dancing with the Stars, Maksim finished as the runner-up twice and also placed third a couple of times.

Meanwhile, Peta became a pro partner on Dancing with the Stars for Season 13 in 2011. She competed in a total of 14 seasons and claimed the mirrorball trophy twice.

Peta sat out of Season 23 while she was pregnant with Shai.

While awaiting the birth of Baby No. 2, Peta's sister-in-law, Jenna Johnson, recently gave birth to her son, Rome, with Maksim's brother Val Chmerkovskiy in January.

"He is such a doll. Oh my gosh," Peta gushed of her newborn nephew.

"I need to go and see him again. I haven't seen him for a couple weeks, but he is so cute. They're doing so well. I'm so proud of them. You know, they're both dotting parents. They're just so in love with him, and he's just, he's so cute and chubby right now."

Peta said it's a dream come true to have a family in which the children are so close in age.

"This is what we've always wanted. This is what, you know, the boys wanted," Peta shared. "It's just such a special time for everybody to think, and there's new babies everywhere."

Sharna Burgess also just welcomed her first child with her boyfriend Brian Austin Green in June 2022.
