'Newlyweds' Jessica Simpson breaks into films with Daisy Duke role

U.S. pop singer Jessica Simpson says playing Daisy Duke in the new movie "The Dukes of Hazzard" was the best first acting role she could have chosen.

"I begged, begged, begged for the role," the pretty blonde reality TV star recently told reporters in New York, adding that when she heard Warner Bros. was making a "Dukes" movie, she all but "knocked down producer Billy Gerber's door" because she wanted the part of the butt-kicking country girl so badly.

"I grew up in Texas, so I watched a lot of the re-runs of the TV show," she recalled.

"I was young when they came out. Me and my cousins would play 'Dukes of Hazzard' and I was always Daisy. I like the whole idea of 'Dukes of Hazzard.' It's a great family that fights for each other all the time and just has a really cool bond and that's something that I've always loved. The spirit of the TV show is something that I really loved."
