NBC going international with 'Last Comic Standing 5' casting calls

By Christopher Rocchio and Steve Rogers, 01/24/2007

The fifth edition of NBC's Last Comic Standing isn't just looking for the funniest person in America -- but in the entire world.

NBC has announced the open audition casting calls for its fifth season of Last Comic Standing, the Emmy-nominated reality talent competition that traditionally searched for the funniest stand-up comics in America and is now expanding its reach to look for laughs internationally.

While NBC's USA Network sister cable network has previously held Nashville Star casting calls in Canada, few American reality shows have traditionally allowed anyone other than U.S. residents to compete.  CBS' Rock Star -- which centered its first season around finding a new lead singer for Australian rock group INXS -- has been the most notable exception.  Rock Star: INXS held open auditions on six continents, and, in another departure from other American reality competitions, also allowed viewers from nine different countries to vote and determine which contestants would survive each week's performance round.

NBC's plans don't seem to quite as ambitious as Rock Star: INXS, however besides upcoming auditions in Los Angeles, New York, Minnesota, Arizona and Texas, talent scouts for Last Comic Standing 5 will also be making stops in Sydney, Australia, London, England and Montreal, Canada.

Comedians interested in attending one of the open-call auditions should prepare two minutes of material.  Additional information is available at www.nbc.com/casting/#lcs.  The current open-call audition schedule is as follows.  Doors open at each location at 9AM.
