Mark Ballas injured during 'Dancing with the Stars' finale performance

By Christopher Rocchio, 11/28/2007

Dancing with the Stars professional Mark Ballas -- who was eliminated with celebrity partner and current girlfriend Sabrina Bryan during the sixth week of the competition -- was taken to the hospital for a shoulder injury following his routine with Bryan during last night's live fifth-season finale broadcast on ABC.

"I don't know [what happened to his shoulder].  It just happened during the performance," Bryan told Entertainment Tonight correspondent Donnie Osmond immediately following the live finale broadcast.  "I was going back and forth during commercial breaks to make sure he's okay.  The ambulance came -- picked him up -- and I haven't talked to him since."

Dancing with the Stars judge Carrie Ann Inaba told Entertainment Tonight Ballas "dislocated" his shoulder.  While Bryan commented Ballas' shoulder injury "just happened" during the finale performance, Dancing judge Bruno Tonioli said he thinks it originated from a Monday rehearsal.

"What happened, [Bryan and Ballas] rehearsed yesterday, and he injured himself during the rehearsal," Tonioli told Entertainment Tonight.  "He wanted to go on.  He didn't want to let Sabrina down.  But during the dance, the injury became worse.  The guy passed out in the corridor!"

Inaba said the judges could sense the pain Ballas was feeling during last night's routine with Bryan.

"You could see it.  He was grimacing," Inaba told Entertainment Tonight.  "You could see it in his eyes.  We saw it a lot in his eyes.  We were very worried about him."

Dancing with the Stars recently concluded fifth season was Ballas' first as a professional on the show.  He and Bryan were the first couple to achieve a perfect score of 30 from the show's three judges for their Paso Doble routine during the fourth week of the competition.
