Now that CBS has approved The Amazing Race 5, local CBS affiliates in major markets are planning promotions to boost the Emmy-winning series, beginning with helping potential contestants get their applications completed before the quickly approaching October 8 application deadline.

The Boston Herald reports that Boston CBS affiliate WBZ-TV (Channel 4) is holding auditions for the show at 7 PM on Monday, October 6. During the audition, WBZ will make a two-minute tape of all two-person teams that fully qualify to be on TAR5 and pass the tapes along to the show's producers. Considering that applications are due on Wednesday, October 8, this move should help both TAR5 and the local CBS affiliates, who always like to have local contestants to feature during reality programs.

Another CBS affiliate, WBNG-TV (Ch. 12) in Binghamton, NY, will hold auditions in Johnson City, NY on Wednesday, October 1. We'll pass along word of other local auditions as we receive it.

Considering that TAR executive producer Bertram van Munster told the Hollywood Reporter that TAR5 would feature "drastic changes" to keep the show fresh, we're sure the producers would like as many potential contestants as possible ... so keep an eye out for auditions in your local area.
