JoJo Fletcher's ex-boyfriend Chad Rookstool claims she went on The Bachelor for the wrong reasons.

"JoJo thought the show would help branch out her career," Rookstool told In Touch Weekly in a tell-all interview. "She said it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."

Rookstool said Fletcher was selected to appear on The Bachelor because her brother Ben Patton, who starred on NBC's Ready For Love dating show a couple of years ago, was friendly with one of The Bachelor's producers. Rookstool firmly believes Fletcher competed for Ben Higgins just for television exposure.

Rookstool made himself known on The Bachelor when he left flowers and a letter at Fletcher's Dallas home in attempt to win her back during her hometown date with Higgins. Viewers saw a flustered and frustrated Fletcher claim she was done with Rookstool when they spoke on the phone before Higgins met her family.

After Higgins dumped Fletcher for Lauren Bushnell during Season 20's finale, according to Rookstool, the Dallas real estate developer ran straight back into his arms.

Rookstool claimed they reunited once she got home, snuck around while the show was airing on ABC, and became "intimate" again. The salon owner also accused Fletcher of saying she never really loved Higgins.

During that time, Fletcher allegedly had a conversation with Rookstool about the opportunity to star on The Bachelorette. She reportedly wasn't offered the position yet but knew the gig was a possibility.

"JoJo said, 'I don't know if I'm the next Bachelorette, but let's just have a conversation as if I am,'" Rookstool recalled. "JoJo is the type of person who likes leaving the door open... She tried to tell me she wasn't saying goodbye forever -- but I told her that I'm not going to sit around and wait for her [this time], and that was it."

Rookstool claimed Fletcher was "only holding on" to him in case she wasn't named Season 12's Bachelorette.

"It's so hard for me to picture her as the Bachelorette and finding someone else, because she's a big part of my life and my best friend. But I'm not going to wait for her," he told In Touch.

The Bachelorette's twelfth season began filming last week and will premiere Monday, May 23 at 8PM ET/PT on ABC.
