The initial ratings results are in for Tuesday's The Simple Life premiere and they are pretty much as expected -- for probably the first time this fall season, FOX actually has some good news series ratings information to report.

After following up this fall's highly rated and exciting Major League Baseball post-season with a string of disappointing (The O.C., Tru Calling, Wanda) and down-right dreadfully rated programs (The Next Joe Millionaire, Skin, Luis) FOX badly needed a ratings life raft to hold it over until January's premiere of American Idol 3, and the "reality sitcom" starring Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie seems to have provided it.

According to preliminary Nielsen Media Research ratings, thirteen million viewers tuned in for the premiere of The Simple Life as the episode dominated its 8:30-9:00 PM ET timeslot in virtually all key ratings demographics.

Increasing its Adults 18-49 rating a phenomenal 79% versus its That '70s Show repeat episode lead-in,
The Simple Life was the highest-rated program of the night in the Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34, Teens and other key demographics.

The program defeated the second-episode of NBC's two-episode The Tracey Morgan Show premiere by over 4 million viewers, and two full rating points and six shares in the Adults 18-49 demographic.
