Disney Channel has announced it will premiere PrankStars, a new reality series which will surprise Disney viewers by setting them up to meet their favorite celebrities, on Friday, July 15 at 8PM ET/PT.
Hosted by actor Mitchel Musso, PrankStarswill feature hidden camera technology that will capture unsuspecting tweens and teens being set up by family members who will put them face-to-face with their favorite stars in "unpredictable and humorous" situations, according to the network. Musso will direct the pranks live from a secret mobile command center.
PrankStars' premiere episode will feature Musso and fellow Disney Channel stars Selena Gomez and Debby Ryan catching their biggest fans by surprise in three distinct pranks.
Mary, a 14-year-old Gomez fan, will be paired up with her idol -- who is disguised as a typical teenager -- and asked to learn a jingle during an audition for a fake bubble gum commercial. Ryan will recruit her number one fan, 14-year-old Albany, to model for her upcoming fashion show, but Albany will awkwardly be required to fire the star.
In addition, Musso's real-life best friend will fail to show up for an interview at a restaurant, so the host will ask an unsuspecting patron -- 15-year-old Luke -- to step in and take on a challenging role.
New episodes of PrankStarswill debut every month and feature a different roster of celebrities.
PrankStars is being executive produced by Barry Poznick, John Stevens, Charles Steenveld, and Rick de Oliveira.
