Discovery orders new Bear Grylls-hosted 'Worst Case Scenario' series

By Christopher Rocchio, 01/15/2010

Discovery Channel announced it has ordered Worst Case Scenario, a new series that will feature Man Vs. Wild survival expert Bear Grylls putting himself in potentially life-threatening situations and showing viewers how to get out of them.

"Bear Grylls demonstrates resourcefulness in the face of adversity," said Discovery Channel president Clark Bunting.

"Grylls teaches the audience at home that you don't have to be a Navy Seal or a stuntman to survive these intense situations - you just have to be prepared, use basic common sense, and learn how to not panic."

Each one-hour episode will follow Grylls as he provides "how-to, hands-on, step-by-step instructions on everything you may need to know when faced with a worst case scenario," according to Discovery. Grylls will rely on the advice and instruction of experts to escape the potentially deadly circumstances.

Some of the situations Worst Case Scenario will cover will include escaping a high-rise apartment fire, fending off a shark attack, escaping a sinking car, getting out of a frozen lake, surviving brake failure while driving a car down a hill, preventing a mountain lion attack, and managing to fall down a flight of stairs unharmed.

Discovery Channel ordered six episodes of Worst Case Scenario, which is currently slated to premiere this spring.  The series is being produced by Pilgrim Films & Television.

Man vs. Wild premiered on Discovery Channel in 2006 and new fourth-season episodes currently air Wednesdays at 9PM ET/PT.
